Archaeology studies got permission to teach students as a course in History Department in 1994 and offered only a small program in 4 semesters, which could lead to B.A afterward. After three years the department of archaeology was established as a new department in Faculty of Literature and Humanities. Since then, students are accepted in B.A. Archaeology. In 2005, M.A. Archaeology offered in this department and in 2012, Ph.D. program is also added.
The B.A. students program includes a practical course (which covers 20 unites of B.A. program) and have to take training in ancient or historical sites under guiding of his or her teachers. M.A. students should work on a project as dissertation. Ph.D. program includes course work in two years and writing a thesis in next two years. All students can do their practical course and excavations in sites such as Shahr-e Sokhta, Bampoor, and even out of Sistan and Baluchestan province.
