This department was established in 1974. The evening program was also offered in this department in 1978. At the present, 88 students are studying in B.A program. In 2001, the department has enrolled M.A students in both morning and evening time. There are more than 100 students in this program now. This department, too, has enrolled students in both specializations of contemporary literature and narrative literature from 2017. 

This department has 10 professors (1 full professor, 8 associate professors and 1 assistant professor) and one department clerk  or personal assistant. Since 2008, the High Committee Council of MSRT has given permission for enrolling research students. The department has 50 research scholars now.

The permission has been given by MSRT for specialization in Children Literature, War and Resistance Literature and Comparative Literature for M.A students. This permission is also given to Lyrical, Mystical and Epic Literature for Ph. D students. The department has also covered all General Persian courses in the university and has provided teachers to all departments for their students who have taken general Persian literature as a subsidiary subject.
