Signing a Memorandum of Scientific Cooperation with Nanjing University of China

The Memorandum of Understanding between the University  of Sistan and Baluchestan and Nanjing University of China was signed in March 2022 by the deans of the two universities, Dr. Mohammad Nabi Gorgij, a faculty member of the Department of Geology, and Professor Shuzhong Shen of the Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Nanjing University. According to the memorandum, joint scientific research in the field of Paleontology, Biostratigraphy and Chemostratigraphy around multiple Critical Transition will be carried out in the Precambrian-Cambrian, Permian-Triassic and gradual passage of the Cretaceous-Paleocene transition based on stratigraphic sections in central Iran. It will be possible to exchange faculty members and postgraduate students for Master's and Ph.D degrees and for joint scientific field excursion after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic in Iran and China for academic staff and post-graduate students. According to the memorandum, it was decided to conduct joint field studies in Iran, especially in Central Iran, Kalmard region, Tabas block and Yazd block, and all geochemical analyzes will be performed at Nanjing University and China. Multidisciplinary researches on topics such as of Biological and Environmental events around the Precambrian-Camberian, Carboniferous-Permian, Permian-Triassic and Cretaceous-Paleogene boundaries in Central Iran and Alborz in terms of paleontology, sedimentary environment, biostratigraphy and stable isotopes of other provisions of this memorandum are scientific. Obtaining joint research grants in China and Iran for conducting  joint research projects, especially in Iran, and publishing international scientific articles in the above-mentioned fields is another agreement of this memorandum.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Mohammad Nabi Gorgij, a member of the faculty of the Department of Geology, University of Sistan and Baluchestan, in more than two decades of continuous and extensive research in Central Iran, especially in Tabas block and Kalmard zone, succeeded in two typical stratigraphic sections. Introduce two conformable Permian-Triassic  stratigraphic sections in which there is progress, the results of which will be published in collaboration with Nanjing University in the form of internationally recognized articles. The presentation of these new scientific achievements will open new horizons and new approaches in relation to the topics of paleogeography, paleobiogeography, paleotectonics and Paleozoic and Triassic paleontology of Central Iran, including the Tabas, Kalmard, Posht-e- Badam and Yazd blocks.
