Establishment of Smartphone Analytical Sensors Research Centre

Announcing the establishment of Smartphone Analytical Sensors Research Centre, hosted by the University of Sistan and Baluchestan

Massoud Kaykhaii, professor of chemistry, announced the establishment of the Smartphone Analytical Sensors Research Centre (SAS) at the University of Sistan and Baluchestan. This centre, the first of its kind, will focus on the use of smart mobile phones as analysis and detection devices.

Dr. Kaykhaii, Director of Center stated the following regarding the announcement: “It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce the establishment of the SAS Center. The role of mobile devices on medical diagnostics and health monitoring is already known. Here we will try to demonstrate a smart phone as an analytical laboratory. The main advantage of using sensors on a mobile device is their wide application and flexibility to select from a range of assays. For example, when you are in picnic, by using such sensors mounted in your smart phone, you may be able to find info about the safety of water in the environment. Or you can scan a fruit for presence of pesticide residue on it."

"In this centre, we are looking forward to work closely with other national groups to highlight the use of mobile phones as a portable analytical lab; however, International collaboration will play a major role in achieving this target”, He added.
